Some stuff

A couple things I'm working on right now for my 2nd year portfolio.

August 22, 2010

It's been a while since I posted and since I'm going on vacation tomorrow I thought I'd put at least a little something on here.

Girl and Gryphon

So here we are, the finished image.

This is an image I'm really, really happy with. It was a little bumpy starting, where there were huge changes in composition which took place before those b/w images I posted. But after that, with help from roommate Dan, roommate's friend Jazz, and the all around fantastic boyfriend Cory the seas were reasonably calm and gentle for a novice.

This is, what? The fourth or fifth image where I do b/w first and leave the colour for the final round of rendering, and it's the first time where not only did it turn out good but I'm really content with it. The last image, the one of the demon, was all right b/w, but the colouring I did on that was so atrocious I can't even look at it without shame. While this picture took longer than I would have liked, the end result are more important.

Switching Hats: wearing the tophat.

I've got a lot of ideas that buzz around in my head, and a lot of them aren't very artsy at all. Actually, I probably make a terrible artist because when I come up with something it usually never finds its way to paper and I forget. What does get down to paper, usually doesn't fit into a drawing. More often I have ideas for writing, but I'm a terrible writer so I never really get anything done and that ends with me pretty much doing nothing creative for long lengths of time despite the fact I have a wackload of ideas that spark up and fizz out.

I'm babbling. So, what I mean with switching hats, it's like in the Final Fantasy games were you can switch your character's jobs so you can be a white mage then switch to a thief or whatever. Only I'm switching my amateur artist hat (which I imagine as a foppy thing scuffed up and worn out) for other types, and turning my art blog into a blog of my interests, as silly as they can be. And even though few people read this blog, I'm going to pretend to write for an audience (as unlikely that is) just because the practice is necessary.

I can't really say what type of things are going to appear on here, though I'll try not to be whinny or bog it down with boring drama or anything personal because I don't want to read that and I don't think anyone else wants to read that. This is not livejournal, and I'm not a screaming 16 year old girl. I wouldn't want to take away roommate Dan's thunder. Most of the posts will deal with art, artists, (my own) writing, books and occasionally a doctor.

Let's see how many times I'll edit this post!

Busty chick!

Changing this post, showing more of the evolution of the picture. I just found it kind of interesting (and funny, the gryphons head keeps shrinking)

And here's the final B/W, ready to colour. Hopefully I can do a better job than last time.

New sketches

Been a while since I posted.
Starting with some trees. Went sketching with Dan Petcu, he made a suggestion about drawing the form of trees so I did some practices afterwards.

Bears!!

A crappy colouring job

Not too happy with the image, but glad it's out of the way. I learned a lot more about colour process, and I have a few more ideas I want to play out in future images. Hopefully those are better.

Two of the things that most annoy me 1:some of the colouring in parts. The lighter/vivid areas look all right to me, but it gets ugly and muddy in the dark corners. Fuh. Remember to plan next time! 2: Composition; I think my first drawing was better composed than the final. But I'll admit that composition is probably my weakest or one the weakest points of my work. A lot of the time it's from over-working and analyzing the image, trying to get it to conform to my elementary understanding of flow and it screws up the image almost every time.

Dragon?

I know what I said in the last post, but whatever. The finished design of a dragon, the image is still in planning stages.

Being that I'm planning to sell my art, what's one of the best selling images? Dragons of course! All I'm missing is a hot babe!

March 31, 2010

hmmm

I should be colouring my demon, but I've been in a greyscale mood lately.

Final b&w?

I've been calling it a leecher rather than demon.

Demon chick looks a little better

Still a ways to go on this one, but looking better than before. I know at least one person looks at this blog, you can at least leave a little crit on it! Cooooooooooray, come on Coray, we're going to Candy Mountain!

March 15, 2010

Not much

to say this time. Photoshop has been in a mood of constantly crashing.I've created several new brushes, which I have found immensely useful and you can probably see them used a lot in both pictures.

March 5, 2010

technicalities

Technically, the last post really shouldn't have been on this blog because it was a finished piece, and I never put up any progress shots.

Anyway, here's a WIP of a demon chick!

I don't colour a lot of lineart

And I need to do so more often. Lineart was supplied by a friend of mine, Vinny. She gave me another picture, but I lost it on my hard drive (I don't know how, it's relatively clean on there...)
I also solved the problem if the faded images I would get when I uploaded my art onto the net; it was entirely the fault of a certain program.
I have tacky colour choices.

Another post of stuff I finally got around to scanning!

Some random stuff.

I finally scanned some stuff

A small taste of one sketchbook in no particular order...

(yes, this is mostly from the Complete Guide to Drawing from Life)
Oh hey, some life drawing tooooo.
