Now alive, lots of new work!

Finally getting around to posting the work I've done during the school year.
Some of the stuff I have is in traditional, and I haven't taken pictures of it yet, so this post is mostly going to be anything digital I've done.

Some stuff

A couple things I'm working on right now for my 2nd year portfolio.

Girl and Gryphon

So here we are, the finished image.

This is an image I'm really, really happy with. It was a little bumpy starting, where there were huge changes in composition which took place before those b/w images I posted. But after that, with help from roommate Dan, roommate's friend Jazz, and the all around fantastic boyfriend Cory the seas were reasonably calm and gentle for a novice.

This is, what? The fourth or fifth image where I do b/w first and leave the colour for the final round of rendering, and it's the first time where not only did it turn out good but I'm really content with it. The last image, the one of the demon, was all right b/w, but the colouring I did on that was so atrocious I can't even look at it without shame. While this picture took longer than I would have liked, the end result are more important.

Busty chick!

Changing this post, showing more of the evolution of the picture. I just found it kind of interesting (and funny, the gryphons head keeps shrinking)

And here's the final B/W, ready to colour. Hopefully I can do a better job than last time.

New sketches

Been a while since I posted.
Starting with some trees. Went sketching with Dan Petcu, he made a suggestion about drawing the form of trees so I did some practices afterwards.

Bears!!

A crappy colouring job

Not too happy with the image, but glad it's out of the way. I learned a lot more about colour process, and I have a few more ideas I want to play out in future images. Hopefully those are better.

Two of the things that most annoy me 1:some of the colouring in parts. The lighter/vivid areas look all right to me, but it gets ugly and muddy in the dark corners. Fuh. Remember to plan next time! 2: Composition; I think my first drawing was better composed than the final. But I'll admit that composition is probably my weakest or one the weakest points of my work. A lot of the time it's from over-working and analyzing the image, trying to get it to conform to my elementary understanding of flow and it screws up the image almost every time.

Dragon?

I know what I said in the last post, but whatever. The finished design of a dragon, the image is still in planning stages.

Being that I'm planning to sell my art, what's one of the best selling images? Dragons of course! All I'm missing is a hot babe!

hmmm

I should be colouring my demon, but I've been in a greyscale mood lately.

Final b&w?

I've been calling it a leecher rather than demon.

Demon chick looks a little better

Still a ways to go on this one, but looking better than before. I know at least one person looks at this blog, you can at least leave a little crit on it! Cooooooooooray, come on Coray, we're going to Candy Mountain!

Not much

to say this time. Photoshop has been in a mood of constantly crashing.I've created several new brushes, which I have found immensely useful and you can probably see them used a lot in both pictures.

technicalities

Technically, the last post really shouldn't have been on this blog because it was a finished piece, and I never put up any progress shots.

Anyway, here's a WIP of a demon chick!

I don't colour a lot of lineart

And I need to do so more often. Lineart was supplied by a friend of mine, Vinny. She gave me another picture, but I lost it on my hard drive (I don't know how, it's relatively clean on there...)
I also solved the problem if the faded images I would get when I uploaded my art onto the net; it was entirely the fault of a certain program.
I have tacky colour choices.

Another post of stuff I finally got around to scanning!

Some random stuff.

I finally scanned some stuff

A small taste of one sketchbook in no particular order...

(yes, this is mostly from the Complete Guide to Drawing from Life)
Oh hey, some life drawing tooooo.

Gah! Just, gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

I usually have no issue with software, and if I do it's because I'm a moron. But when it comes to photoshop, I know how to use it and it behaves nicely. Even when it doesn't, it's all right because I'm a save whore and usually can't go 20 minutes without a cmd+s, I'm so good I can do it without a thought.

Software crashes, it happens. If you save often, then it's no issue, right?

Right?

I was working in photoshop today, it crashed. No problem there, just open it back up, not sure how many minutes it's been since I last saved;

What? This doesn't look right, in fact it look-
Oh god.
Nononononononononononononono! It's gone, everything I just did is gone. How is this possible? I saved it about a dozen times, what the fuck happened?

How can I trust you anymore, photoshop? You assured me that a save was irreversible and safe, and now you betray me. Your words are all suspect to me now.

We've had a lot of good years, and one day it's possible that I might forgive you for this. But, right now, I think it's better if I started seeing other mediums. Ones that don't lie and erase my art. I'll still need you to teak and edit the scans, but at least there's no way for you to destroy the original. Good bye.
